The Silence of Presence – A Mindful Walk at Seipäjärvi with the Hostess
(In dry weather, you may walk in wool socks)
Duration: 2.5 hours
Welcome to Seipäjärvi, an authentic Lappish village, for an unhurried silence walk. Here you will see how we live — and have lived for generations. The house also offers local history, art, and you’ll meet our two friendly dogs that you can pet.
During the silence walk, you will feel your heart sigh with peace and a sense of safety. We are present, respecting one another in silence. You may hold a friend’s hand and together sense this wholeness, this beauty.
You will feel the ground under your feet, hear even the smallest sounds — or hear nothing at all. It’s incredible: no streetlights, no traffic noise. We are one with nature, both grand and small.
This sensory walk lasts approx. 1 hour.
The walk ends by the fire at the lakeside hut (kota), where we continue in silence while watching the fire. Later, around the fire, you may share your experiences while grilling sausages and enjoying hot or cold drinks with local pastries.
In daylight, we walk along forest trails, lake shores, and village paths. In wintertime, from December onwards (depending on ice conditions), we may also walk on the frozen lake after ensuring safety. We listen to nature’s sounds, stop to enjoy, observe, and feel the surrounding nature.
In the dark season, we walk by lantern or small flashlight through village paths and forest trails, observing the sky — possibly seeing the northern lights or even a shooting star. On clear full moon nights, we may see our shadows and a sky full of stars that seems to be closer to earth.
The weather can be variable. We welcome the conditions and mood that Mother Nature offers. Please note that we have four distinct seasons with significant weather variations, but this trip can be arranged almost year-round.
In dry conditions, especially on crisp frosty days, you may walk in wool socks (handmade by local artisans, available to borrow).
Program:
The program starts at the old village store in Seipäjärvi (Seipäjärventie 1765, Seipäjärvi).
Warm welcome by the hostess and introduction to the historic village store.
The silence walk starts from the store. The hostess plans the route according to the season and weather, with the walking part lasting approx. 1 hour. In bad weather, parts of the sensory experience may take place indoors.
The walk ends at the lakeside hut about 100 meters away. Here, hot drinks, local pastries, and grilled sausages are served (included in the price).
There are also small handicrafts available from local artisans, including wool socks, should you wish to make purchases.
